Smallpdf and iLovePDF are polished cloud-first PDF suites — files typically upload to their servers, free tiers use daily task caps, and Pro plans unlock higher limits. PDFTrusted offers browser-first utilities (merge, compress, sign, edit, OCR…) that run on your device.
Privacy without over-promising
For sensitive PDFs, many users prefer browser tools because files stay on the device during processing and PDFTrusted does not run a consumer document library on its servers. That is a design choice users often like — not a legal warranty. Use judgment for IDs, medical records, or sealed contracts.
Free limits — what is actually true
Smallpdf’s free tier is commonly reported as about two tasks per day. iLovePDF often allows a few more with file-size restrictions. PDFTrusted’s browser tools are free without a daily task counter on this site today. We do not currently charge subscriptions here.
