Delete Pages From a PDF Without Rebuilding the Whole File
Most PDFs that need fixing do not need editing — they need fewer pages. A scanner added a blank sheet, the cover letter printed twice, or a contract came with an appendix that must not go out with the signed copy.
Deleting pages is one of the few PDF jobs where doing it in the browser is strictly better: the file is small, the operation is surgical, and nothing has to be uploaded for it.
Check what you are actually removing
Page numbers printed on the page and page numbers in the PDF viewer are different things. A file that starts with a cover sheet shows “1” in the viewer while the paper says nothing, so the number you read in a footer is usually one ahead.
Scroll the whole document once before deleting. Two passes of five seconds each beat re-downloading the original from an email because page 14 was not the page you thought.
Delete the pages, then verify the result
Open Delete Pages, load the file, select the pages to drop and download the result. The remaining pages keep their order and their content; nothing is re-rendered, so text stays selectable.
- Remove blank scan pages first — they are the most common cause of a file being twice the size it needs to be.
- If the goal was a smaller file, run Compress PDF afterwards; deleting a page rarely gets a scan under a size cap on its own.
- If you need the removed pages as a separate document, use Extract Pages instead of deleting and re-saving.
- Open the downloaded file once and check the last page — that is where an accidental extra deletion shows up.
When deleting is the wrong tool
If the pages must stay in the file but not be visible, that is a different job: split the document, or redact the content. Deleting pages cannot hide information — it removes it from this copy only, and the original still exists wherever you got it.
FAQ
Does deleting a page reduce the file size much?+
Usually not as much as people expect. A page of scanned images can be several megabytes, so removing it does help, but a text page is tiny. If the goal is a size cap, compress the file after deleting.
Is the original file changed?+
No. The tool works on the copy you opened and gives you a new download. Your original stays exactly as it was.
Can I remove several non-adjacent pages at once?+
Yes. Select every page you want gone in one pass — selecting page 2, 7 and 12 together is one job, not three.
Does this work on a scanned PDF?+
Yes. Page deletion is structural, so it does not matter whether the page contains text or an image.
