Where is my file processed — and is it uploaded?

Which tools run in your browser, which need a secure server step, and how long temporary job files exist.

Updated

Two kinds of job

PDFTrusted runs on two paths, and the tool decides which one it needs. Everyday tools — merge, split, organise, rotate, crop, compress, page numbers, watermark, protect, unlock, sign and the image conversions — run inside your browser tab. For those tools the file is not uploaded to us as part of the job.

Jobs that need more processing power — OCR, Office and OpenDocument conversion, PDF to Word/Excel/PowerPoint, web captures, translation, redaction and the AI helpers — use a short secure server step over HTTPS. The file goes up, the result comes back, and the temporary copy is cleaned up after processing, with leftovers removed within an hour.

How to tell which path a tool uses

The tool page says so before you start, and the security page lists the current split. If a tool page is ambiguous, treat it as a server job and decide accordingly.

What we do not do

We do not keep a permanent library of your files. There is no advertising profile built from tool use, and the AI helpers do not train on your documents.

Still stuck?

Tell us the tool, the file size and the exact error text. That is usually enough to reproduce it.
